The 40 minute meeting sounded more like a monologue, and the MWSS, Manila Water and Maynilad officials deserved it.
After discovering that the "water shortage" was due to technical issues in the distribution rather than an actual supply deficit, the temporary water shortage looks like it should not have been a problem at all had these entities done their job of cooperating to ensure water supply.
Likewise, this means that we should be more vigilant in monitoring the performance of water concessionaires like Manila Water. Being given the franchise to supply our water means that our public interest as consumers should be held above any other consideration, whether profit or otherwise. Manila Water and Maynilad should both work for the consumers interest in accordance with the concession agreement, or we will prod government to look for others who will. Photo: PCOO
