Peace will last if government is strong

Malacanang`s statement is apt for the season:

“The President first would like to greet all Filipinos a happy and prosperous New Year,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in an interview with Palace reporters. “His wish at the very inception of his presidency is to serve them and protect them, and to give them comfortable lives and lasting peace.”

I agree wholeheartedly.

Lasting peace can only happen is a strong sense of order, protection, abundance and justice is attained. How can peace happen amid poverty and strife? How can any gains of peace be sustained if over the last 50 years various rebel groups and their splinter units seemed to have run rings around past governments that talked endlessly yet failed to attain a sustainable peace?

Over the last three years only this government has put in place a right approach in building upon the gains of peace.

The whole of nation approach, which puts government services and opportunities to focus on Conflict areas, and the institutionalization of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino, and other programs that for the first time extend loans and technologies in agricultural areas, will the root causes of insurgency-social and economic exclusion, be addressed.

Only with a strong govrnment can such an approach take place and achieve results. The constant weakening of rebel groups, their loss of co trol over their regional units only shows how their ranks have been decimated.
