The Palace confirms that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has arrived safely tonight, May 28, in Tokyo, Japan, for a four-day working visit with our key strategic partner in North Asia.
We look forward to the President’s summit meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during his working visit. Japan is our second major trading partner and one of the biggest official development assistance partners. We therefore expect that the President`s third visit to this country will further strengthen both nations’ shared commitment in the areas of infrastructure development, trade and investments, labor, maritime security and maritime domain awareness, among others.
The President’s message at the 25th Nikkei International Conference on the Future of Asia will underscore the development thrusts and goals of the Philippines before global and regional leaders.
The President will likewise speak before Japanese business leaders and Japanese tourism partners in a business forum and a roundtable meeting, respectively.
Finally, the President’s visit will not be complete without touching base with the members of the Filipino community in Japan where he will personally convey his appreciation for their sacrifices and report to them his Administration’s reform agenda and the significant strides that the government has made in the last three years.
Pursuant to Special Order No. 528, the President assigned Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra as government caretaker to ensure smooth operations during the duration of his working visit.
