In tune with the launch the direct Hongkong- Davao flight of Cathay Dragon on October 28, the Gateway Hotel in Kowloon and Marco Polo Davao launched a special buffet of Mindanao dishes aptly calles "Taste of Davao" last October 11.
Marco Polo Davao`s Alex Estriza and his team bring renowned Davao appetizers such as Tuna Ceviche to tease the taste buds of Hongkongers.
The main dishes reflect Davaos exotic mix of mainstream and indigenous Filipino, Muslim and Chinese dishes such as slow-cooked beef ribs in coconut broth; grilled chicken in coconut sauce, mutton with coconut and spices; and prawn with sauteed coconut.
Likewise raved over were popular Filipino BBQ pork, chicken liver skewers; and pork sausages.
For just desserts, Davao`s famous guava membrillo is available along with popular Davao fruits such as pomelo, mangosteen and lanzones, set along with halo-halo; sweet coconut gratin pancakes and sweet rice cakes; durian rice cake; and sweet soup with dumplings.
In attendance at the Oct. 11 launch were members of the Hongkong Chamber of Commerce and the various ASEAN consuls and staff, and of course, the Philippine consulate in Hongkong.
After the launch, the buffet was noticeably full of patrons savoring the dishes.The Gateway hotel is located inside the Harbour Centre in Tsim Tsa Tsui in Kowloon.
