JULY jobs: Less unemployed, more underemployed

In figures released by the Philippine Statistics Authority last September 5, The unemployment rate in July 2018 was estimated at 5.4 percent, improving from 5.6 percent in July 2017.

Among the regions, Ilocos Region (6.5%), Central Luzon (6.3%), CALABARZON (6.3%), Bicol Region (6.3%) and NCR (6.1%) were the regions with the highest unemployment rates, while SOCKSARGEN and Davao Regions posted the lowest at 3.3% unemployment.

In terms of underemployment In July 2018, the underemployment rate, 17.2 percent while in July 2017, the underemployment rate was lower at 16.3 percent.

On the official statement in its website, the Philippine Statistics Authority defines underemployed persons as "employed persons who express the desire to have additional hours of work in their present job, or to have additional job, or to have a new job with longer working hours"
