To address the rice crisis in the Zamboanga SuluTawiTawi (ZAMBASULTA) area, the National Food Authority (NFA) approved on Tuesday the immediate importation of 133,500 metric tons of rice for the region.
In a statement, the NFA said delivery for the 33,500 MT is set on Sept. 15-30, while 100,000 MT are expected to arrive between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30, 2018.
The agency added it will also allocate additional rice stocks to the ZAMBASULTA provinces to provide consumers more sources of low-priced, good-quality NFA rice at P27 per kilogram.
While the NFA assures the public that there is no shortage of rice in the country, the Department of Agriculture hopes that coming harvests in November will ease prices. (with reports from PNA)
