New film festival opens in Zamboanga

FESTIVAL DE CINE PAZ MINDANAO is expected to announce its top 10 films "in competition" tomorrow, November 27.

Its jury is composed of Teng Mangansakan, Filmmaker; Fr. Angel Calvo, CMF, Chairman, ZABIDA; Sheron Dayoc, Filmmaker; LTC Delfin Consolacion, Joint Task Force Zamboanga; Jarell Serencio, Filmmaker

The Festival’s Opening Film, THE CRESCENT RISING!, is a Mindanaoan Documentary film, directed by Zamboangeno award-wining filmmaker, Sheron Dayoc.

Produced by ANAK MINDANAO Partylist, the film is about the three portraits of different lives caught in between a crossfire of unwavering faith and ambiguous history. Book 1: A man who claims Jabidah Massacre is a lie, Book 2: Moro rebel fighters who believe Jihad should be a way of life and Book 3: Women caught in the wrath of war. Interwoven stories to create a tapestry of Miandanao’s forgotten people.

Best Documentary: 2016 Busan International Film Festival

Best Documentary: 2016 Gawad Urian

Best Documentary: 2015 Qcinema International Film festival

At 3PM on Dec. 2, a Special Screening on the following will take place:

“Mga Bitoon sa Siyudad” (Short Film). Directed by Jarell Serencio, the film is about two brothers searching for the hard earned money they accidentally lost amidst the crowded Roxas Night Market when a bomb exploded in Davao City. It bagged the Best Director award at the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival.
